[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css_animation=”none”]

Kenmore washer is stuck on a cycle, or maybe it doesn’t finish the cycle. Sounds familiar?

You’ve separated your whites and darks, measure out the right amount of detergent. Put the clothes in and start your regular cycle. Your Kenmore washer fills up and nothing is happening. The clothes are just sitting in a tub full of water and it won’t advance to other cycles. Or it can be that the washer went through the wash cycle but now won’t rinse and /or spin your close.

There may come a day when your washer gives up or breaks down. The washer doesn’t finish the cycle.

Help! What To Do If Washer Can’t Finish The Cycle

  1. Please, make sure you have chosen the right mode. If it’s necessary, check your owner’s manual. There might be some cycles or options that limit the operations.
  2. Make sure you didn’t overload your washer. It may throw your washer’s sensors off and the washer will not proceed with the cycle. You can try taking your clothes out and reloading the washer or redistributing the load.
  3. Unbalanced load is also a possibility. If the wash load is unbalanced or poorly distributed, the washer may not be able to reach full spin speed. When loading the washer, it’s important to balance the clothes evenly by weight or by fabrics type. Example: jeans and shirts don’t mix well because jeans are much heavier and will outweigh the respective side of the washer drum.
  4. Make sure the inlet water supply is turned on on full and that the hoses aren’t kinked. Your washer will start working again once you find out what causes the block and rectify the problem.
  5. The washer timer controls all functions wash, spin, and rinse cycles. If the washer is not advancing and is stuck on the same cycle, timer control could be blamed. Remove the control panel and check the timer contacts for corrosion or scorching.

Problems Require More Complicated Diagnostics

Make sure that your appliance is unplugged before you begin any repair.

Drain Pump

The main function of the drain pump is to empty the tub during the wash cycle. When the washer is full, you may hear a humming noise that may indicate a failing pump. When the drain pump is damaged, the washer will not advance into the next cycle. Often times the drain pump propeller can shear off, and even though the pump is running, no water is being pumped out. If you want to inspect the drain yourself, you will need to unplug your washer, access the pump, and then inspect all the hoses for any kind of leaks and damages.
Remember to check the filter regularly for any possible build-up. Cleaning your filter regularly will also prolong the life of your washing machine.

Timer or Timer Motor

The main function of the timer is to control all the components in the washer. As the timer rotates, it energizes different contacts, which in turn energize different components of the washer.
These parts need to be replaced if the timer motor does not advance or the contacts are defective. If you can use a multimeter, you may check the timer for continuity.

Heater

To perform the complete wash cycle, the washer needs to reach the correct program temperature. If the heating element is faulty, it can prevent the washer from advancing because it is waiting for the temperature to satisfy. Before blaming the heater, first, check if there is any visible damage. Otherwise, you might need a multimeter for testing the resistance. The heater has failed, if the resistance is far higher than 20-30 Ohms or gives no reading at all. Generally, a heater can short or open. If the heater is showing no resistance or continuity, it means it’s open and is not passing electricity. Vice versa, if the heating element is showing continuity to the ground, it is shorted.
